I'm back! I'll get the hang of regularly updating a blog soon... eventually ;)
I am now on vacation for the next couple weeks. Since the family I work for is going home for Christmas, I get a couple weeks off :) The plan is to relax, sight see, and cook - a lot!
Since my last post Ray and I have done quite a bit. I think I mentioned in an older post that our schedules are all over the place and we tend to miss each other a lot. Ray works midnight to noon and I work 7am-5pm-ish. Some days are shorter for us and some days are longer. Ray goes to bed around 5pm to get up for his shift late at night, and I am usually asleep by 9-10pm. He also works every other weekend so our time together is short but meaningful. Most of the time we just sprawl out on the living room floor (yes, we finally got a rug!), and watch movies or play board/card games. Other times we find the energy to go explore!
About a month ago we got a little ambitious and decided to take a trip to Ikea. Yes, you read that right, there's an Ikea here in Korea! Instead of taking a train/bus/taxi, we just braved the South Korean driving and traffic and drove the car. It was fun to see more of Korea than just our little corner. We grabbed a few things at Ikea and then (after getting lost in the parking garage) we went into the Lotte Mall that was right next door. Inside were several stories of department stores and a wonderful selection of restaurants. We chose "Villa de Charlottle" and were not disappointed. It has become one of my favorite places to eat now!

Another exciting thing that happened.... IT SNOWED! We were gifted a lovely dusting (pouring) of snow on Thanksgiving morning. Ray worked that night (into Thanksgiving morning) so I had the morning all to myself and unbeknowest to me, there was already several inches of snow on the ground. I brewed some coffee, got comfy and spent some time on facebook, browsing to see what's new in the world when I noticed that the base facebook page posted something about driving conditions in the snow. SNOW?! I sprang to the window and discovered several inches of white covering everything I saw! People told me it would snow, but I obviously didn't believe them. It excited and surprised me so much and I couldn't get a hold of Ray until I met him for the squadron Thanksgiving dinner, so I called my mom and dad gushed to them about what this white stuff I hadn't seen in years was all about.
Thanksgiving was a fun day. I love getting to meet Ray at work and be a part of the squadron functions, even when it's freezing and icy outside! There was a potluck set up in one of the hangars and everyone enjoyed some time of fellowship and meeting all the new guys to the squadron. I was slightly disappointed there weren't more spouses there, but I suppose that's the reality of being here where most people come unaccompanied.
In the last few weeks we've made several trips to Suwon, a city not too far away from where we are. Ray and I keep telling ourselves that we'll get out and explore something new, but yet we always find ourselves back in Suwon. To be fair, each time we go we discover something new!

...And more time in Suwon for our Anniversary
We spent our Anniversary in Suwon, eating dinner at a restaurant called "Mad for Garlic" and then stumbling into a fun arcade area of the mall. It was a fun evening, getting off work and rushing to make the train. Our dinner was spectacular and we so enjoyed atmosphere of the restautant. Ray ordered a steak that came with fresh brussel sprout shavings and mushrooms/onions/tomatoes alongside a cheese fondue dish. I ordered a spicy seafood pasta, that was a little more Korean than Italian, and while it was SPICY it was also pretty good. After Tirimisu for dessert, we walked around the mall and snuck upstairs to the cinema for some popcorn before getting back on the train to go home. It was a simple night, but very memorable. I'm glad I was able to spend our anniversary here in Korea with my husband. |
More fun sights in the Lotte Mall in Suwon.
And some more random out and about photos....
We have plenty more sights to see but we just need to find time off together to see it all!
More to come soon, thanks for reading about our life here in South Korea :)
